和猫有关的英语谚语

  今天我们来一起看看关于猫咪在英语中的谚语,可为什么是这个呢?因为洒家最近在学习好吗?多么励志又感人的故事。。。其中有一条我是感觉很有意思的:猫cat一词来自古英语catt,威尔士语叫做cath,西班牙语是gato,法语叫chat,德语则是kat,他们都源于拉丁语catus、 cattus或者catta,表示家猫domestic cat,相应野猫wildcat的拉丁语就是feles。英文里常常把cat叫做pussycat,就跟我们把猫叫做猫咪一样吧?日语的猫读作ねこ neko。
       仔细研读一番,发现其实自古以来,人类就对于猫这种动物就已经很感兴趣了。。。

  fight like Kilkenny cats.就是我们中文里头的两败俱伤,Kilkenny是爱尔兰的小镇,无聊的士兵会斗猫,直到双方自相残杀,太残酷了,会有报应的。

  like a cat on hot bricks.热砖上的猫咪,有点像热锅上的蚂蚁,表示很紧张神经质……

  As much chance as a wax cat in hell.意思是根本就没有机会

  这句话还可以说成"not have a cat in hell's chance"

  eg.They haven't a cat in hell's chance of getting over the mountain in weather like this.

  在这种天气里,他们根本没机会翻越这座山。

  Curiosity killed the cat.好奇害死猫,是一句再熟悉不过的谚语。它原意是要提醒人们谨慎小心。
